The second game of the Yellow Sea Cup, for the Survivors, was held in Seoul this weekend (6 June, 2009) against the Guangzhou Rams. A bruising but one-sided game saw the Survivors run out clear victors with a score of 71-0.
Making a home-debut of both their new pitch and their new kit, the Survivors were looking for a good showing. The selectors had a difficult job choosing a team, with a lot of disappointed players being left on the side-lines, so those lining up on the pitch really had a point to prove. The Rams turned up with an under-strength team, but knowing they had already beaten the Devils, the Survivors weren't going to take things lightly.
Everything went the Survivors' way. Early points on the board gave the Survivors confidence to keep running at the Rams, and that's how the game went on. The Rams were pinned in their own half for the entire game. With the Survivors always choosing to run with the ball, rather than kick it, and keeping posession at the break-down, the Rams really didn't have an answer. Constant pressure from the Survivor forwards crashing the gain line gave their backs a good platform to run off. And good set-piece play meant the Survivors were lining up to run at the Rams defensive line.
The Rams never gave up, they defended hard up until the final whistle, but with the Survivors able to dominate possession, and constantly make the gain line - there was only ever going to be one result.
An historic win for the Survivors!
