This past weekend saw an early morning trip to Gwangyang for a 3-way, 15s tournament with the Jeonnam Aliens and a combined military team. Beautiful scenery and weather conditions saw a bright start to the morning, with the first game between the Aliens & Military. A hard-hitting game ended with the Aliens comfortably winning, although the miltary team showed their potential and huge improvements from where they were only a few months ago.

Next up were the Survivors vs. the military team. With Seve getting injured representing the military, the Survivors were already down to 14 men, and with early injuries to Emerton & Jarvis, plus the Survivors blooding a number of new players - a fairly make-shift Survivors team were pushed hard by the military team.
The final game was between the Aliens and Survivors. The Aliens were looking strong with a big squad gelling well. They easily beat the Survivors and further demonstrated that ex-pat rugby in Korea is on the rise.

After a fun-filled Saturday night in Suncheon with the Aliens (except for Dae-ho who unknowingly managed to break his foot on the dance floor), the Survivors set off Sunday morning for an exhibition match at the Korean TV Awards. After a long journey, they finally arrived at a glorious grass filled stadium, only to be shifted to a dirt/gravel covered pitch! With the military players heading the wrong way, the Survivors were left to put on a friendly game of touch to show the Koreans what rugby is all about... the show was, however, well received by the Koreans, and the Survivors were the happy recipiets of the prize money! |
