This past weekend saw the culmination of the 2011 Yellow Sea Cup. With the Devils having already been crowned 2011 champions, the Survivors & Crabs were left to battle it out for second place. A promising, new look Survivors team had been putting in the hours at training for the last few weeks, and were ready to demonstrate what they were made of.

Line-up

The Crabs, having had some problems with their flight, arrived at the pitch (straight off the plane) to see the Survivors in full warm-up. The Crabs were given some time to warm-up before the game got under way. The first 15 minutes saw the Crabs apply a lot of pressure to the Survivors. They were camped in the Survivors half, and the Survivors were scrambling to get their act together to deal with the Crabs' offence. A lack of awareness by the Survivors saw the Crabs score under the posts from a quickly taken penalty.

The Survivors were able to relieve some pressure from the kick-off and move into the Crabs' half. Good pressure from the Survivors saw the Crabs concede a penalty which the Survivors were able to convert: 3-7. However, the Crabs came right back from the kick-off, scoring another try that they were able to convert: 14-3.

At this point, there were a few nervous faces on the side-line: were the Survivors going to be able to stop the Crabs offence? The Survivors showed what they were made of. The forwards were getting their act together at the set-piece, dominating the line-outs and holding their own in the scrums, finally giving the backs some ball to run with. Passing through the hands saw the Survivors' newly promoted wing score in the corner. This was well converted, bringing the game to 10-14.

The Survivors continued to apply pressure until the end of the first half, even declining an easy penalty kick in favour of a line-out in the corner, however they were unable to breach the Crabs' defence and they went in at half-time 10-14 down.

The Survivors came out in the second-half the way they ended the first. Applying pressure but unable to break-down the Crabs' defence. As the game wore on, the Survivors' lack of depth in reserves started to show. Losing three back-row players in quick succession left the Survivors short around the field, and the Crabs were able to take advantage. Again the Survivors gave away points, first a penalty under the posts, quickly followed by another easy try: 24-10.

Again, the Survivors rallied, pushing the Crabs back up field - but they were unable to break the line. As the game went into the last 10 minutes, the Survivors were visibly starting to tire. Even with players putting their hearts on the line, making tackle after tackle, they were just not able to keep up with the Crabs - and the Crabs managed to score two converted tries and a penalty in those last few minutes - leaving a score which didn't really reflect how the game went: 41-10.
