Guam True Grit 10s.

Firstly, numbers were exceptionally poor! Only 5 survivors were there but we managed to get a hold of some Guam boys for the rest of the numbers. And when I say boys, I really mean it - 16,17 ,18 years old and some of them only playing their 1st real game. Some of them though really did show a lot of potential and could really step up if they keep up with it.

Anyway, on with the games. Our 1st game was against the Wanderers from Cairns. We lost 17 - 0, but gave a good account of ourselves and only let it slip in the last couple of minutes. They were more experinced and showed us all a few tricks, but after that we had a run and it was starting to come together.

We next came up against the Zenkai Beers team from Japan and it was a hard old battle and the score went back and forth until the final whistle which came when we were gearing up for one last push but just came up short and drew 12 -12.

Our last game of the day was against Guam. Bloody hell. We were taken to the cleaners losing 46-0. I would say that we never gave up and the credit must go to the young Guam kids for sticking at it. But against a team that is experienced, bigger and well drilled we were on a hiding to nothing.

All of this meant that on the Sunday we were in the bowl. We were drawn to play the Guam Old Soaks in the bowl semi. We got off to a flying start with an early try. However, the Old Soaks fought back just before 1/2 time with a try. We stuck at it in the second half but they got a lucky try through a loose kick. We were then chasing the game with a couple of minutes to go, tried to throw the ball around in our 22, but gave away a costly interception and that was it.

The Old Soaks went on to win the Bowl. Para Todu won the Plate and the Guam side won the cup after beating the Lunchcutters from NZ in the final. Guam was a hell of a laugh and a good tour. A few beers were had by all and also a good time. A big thanks to Les for getting the tour off the ground and managing to whip up as many people for us as he did.

Oh and the less said about England Wales the better!
