 | | Beijing Brothers 2007 | The Brothers, dressed in schmick suits arrived on a wet miserable day in Seoul.
Luckily, the game was held on the grass pitch, the ladies played first; there were several big hits and a lot of flowing rugby considering the conditions, which lead to several entertaining trys. I'm pretty sure the black jerseys won and both teams played well.
The Brothers performed a strong Haka which sent Goosebumps to both the Survivors on and off the field. The kick off lead to the Brothers starting hard and fast and they probed the right flank. A little Razzle and a great final round the back flick pass lead to a try within the first 5 minutes, with the conversion the Brothers were up and it looked ominous. The survivors showed lots of heart with some big early tackles by Taki and others lead to the turn over and from the next play Sam put up a high ball(sorry these are Juniors notes not detailed) taki regathered only to be denied by some good defensive scrambling by the Brothers.
Then a lot of dropped ball followed until a great charge down by the Survivors lead them to some more turn over ball. The knock ons were numerous by both sides and then the brothers made a good 50 meter gain down the sideline only to knock on at the end of the movement, Sam seemed to be having a blinder due top the forwards good retention of the ball, again they worked in 2's and 3's and gave the backs room to move, The defence by the backs soon snuffed out the wind of the Brothers attack especially one crucial crunch by Tukki on the Flying Brothers winger. With the forwards meeting the brothers muscle head on, the backs again were able to take advantage and a great kick through by Grant and chase by Mo and lead to Sam picking up the scraps and lunging over for the Survivors 1st try- Dan converted and it was all squared up!
Kick off again and another period of Graft (juniors lingo) then the forwards held the ball and drew in a lot of the defenders allowing Tukki to get some clean ball and break the tackle, he then found Chris (SA) who ran a great line and drew in the defence and fed the ball to Brian who was tackled, from the ensuing play Grant ran the ball at the defensive line and found the smallest of holes to finish off the movement. Adam converted and 14-7 half time
Survivors were pinged from the kick off and the ball was turned over a few times, penalties came and a real struggle was on, lots of drop ball lead to each team not really gaining any momentum, from within our own half new boy Simon finally lived up to his talk and broke through the line and gain 50 meter only to see the last pass dropped by ------, the Brothers were under the pump and soon the forwards had caused a turnover. I know we had an unlimited reserve bench but the tackling by all the fellas was very impressive and a lot off pressure was on Brothers but to their credit they held strong and had us back in our own half- Grant took it upon himself 2 chip and regather on the half but was nailed and was off, another blood bin - A real dozy of a bandage which made him look like a character from Alice in Wonderland! Should keep that one on all night!
Now with 15 to go both teams were getting tired, old Brian who seems to be playing the best rugby of his life caused another turnover and grant was on to it, he gave a sweet inside ball to Adam down the left hand side of the pitch, his draw and pass created a great hole which Mr Palmer run through, again grant was there in support and fed the last pass to Rufus who was in great position in support and ran the last 10 meters to score a try while dealing with some late defence from the Brothers. Great joint effort by the boys. The kick wasn't converted, the game continued and Mr Palmer put on a great shot at one of the Brothers big forwards & came off second best, while we were a man down the referee let play continue even after a Penalty and the Brothers ran in another try through their forward pack. Palmer was dribbling incoherently about something and had to be restrained from going back on in that state. Another Blood Bin
There were no more points scored in the game and The Survivors had won 19-12 against the Brothers, after the siren the Brothers treated the crowd with another awesome display of the Haka and everyone was stoked!!!!!
Great game considering the tough conditions, again our forwards lead the way - the Brothers played well and hit hard all day, for the survivors, Matt Malone & matt Seguin ( we will miss ya mate) charged hard and made their tackles count, the new young guns like Simon and Palmer, lamb chops and others put in the hard yards, and even roddy graced the pitch for a couple of 30 meter runs, other mentions are the whole backline who made the brothers think twice when they got the ball (the new centre pairing of Mo & Sorry bro I forgot ur name(kiwi) were very strong in defence in the first 30 ), and Sam & Rufus we great under the kicks. Justin and Stacey played out of their skin and Ian thanks for dressing.Big piss up that night (I wasn't there) but the South Africans loved kicking the Kiwis ass! Heard u were on fire Grant!!!!!!
Enough of this, I gotta go!!! F*ck the spelling mistakes
