 | | the_horse | On a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon, Korea started very brightly against Kazakhstan - rushing to an early 17-0 lead. Two tries from the forwards, including celebrity prop Kim Gwong Sik, and a great running try from the backs, saw Korea back to their old ways - and looking to dominate the Kazakhstanis. However, man-of-the-match Anton 'the-horse' Rudoy had different ideas. His try, combined with some good kicking saw Kazakhstan close the gap to 20-13 at half time. Korea started the second half the same as the first with a quick try through the forwards. But fatigue and the rainy conditions started to affect the Koreans, and Kazakhstan were able to run in three more tries (including two more to Rudoy). The game ended 32-25, but it could have been different if not for a try-saving tackle from Rudoy in the last minutes, which resulted in him being sin-binned for the remainder of the game.
This result means Korea are relegated from the Top 5 of the Asian 5 Nations, and will be replaced next year by Sri Lanka. In scoring 4 tries and securing the bonus point, Kazakhstan finished 2nd and will go into the cross-continental qualifier for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Japan easily won their final game 94-5 over Hong Kong, and won automatic qualification to the World Cup. |
